Operational Objective 5:  Communications/ Community Outreach/ Resource Development Services

Improvement Target 5.1:  By the end of the 2011-12 school year, develop a plan to implement in phases the full service community schools concepts at Glen Oak and Harrison.

    Collaborate with Bradley University to apply for additional funding to support community access at Glen Oak and Harrison after school hours.

Improvement Target 5.3:  Expand and facilitate electronic access to legal information, including District Administrative Procedures, to increase efficiency and consistency in site decisions.

Improvement Target 5.4:  Ensure that all parents are aware of school choice options through a widespread campaign for implementation in 2012.

    Develop a plan whereby all district schools will create a student recruitment plan to offer a variety of enrollment choices to parents and students for implementation by 2012.

Improvement Target 5.5:  Upgrade PSD 150 website to provide content management services and implement a district staff “intranet” site” to allow easier access to information for both staff and the public.

Improvement Target 5.6:  Develop and implement an annual District-wide “Back to School” event in partnership with community organizations.

    Partner with the Dream Center for a Backpack Back-to-School event to help prepare parents to successfully get their students ready for the school year.

Improvement Target 5.7:  Publish an PSD 150 Annual Report to provide the school community and the public with information on the accomplishments and programs of the District.

    The Public Relations Department will develop an annual report that highlights key initiatives and accomplishments of the district. The report will be distributed through the website and limited mailing. (Will coincide with annual Budget Presentation)

Improvement Target 5.8:  Develop and implement an on-going program to secure additional grants, state and federal funding and corporate support for district educational programs.

    Prepare a Legislative Platform for Board approval that will direct legislative and government affairs activities focused on increasing funding and operational flexibility.

Improvement Target 5.9:  Create an annual “State of the District” event for the presentation of District activities to the public and school community.

    Present the “State of the District” to be delivered in May (Community) and October (Parents) of each year.

Improvement Target 5.10:  By the end of the 2011-12 school year, develop and offer a comprehensive professional development program for students and families and enhance parent engagement and involvement efforts.

    Establish a Parent University in each of the three high school regions.

    Partner with community agencies and to provide training to families in a variety of topics that support the whole child including student learning and healthy development.

    Redesign and expand the parent component of the District website to include a virtual parent center with resources for staff to engage families and links for parent resources, materials and online parent classes in academic support and parenting.

    Implement the “Family Friendly Schools” program to include a “Red Carpet School” designation. The focus of this program will be to support principals to create an environment that is welcoming and culturally receptive to families and the community for implementation in 2012-13.
