School District Information

As the District looks at new schools and opportunities, prevention and early intervention are the first keys to insuring academic success in all children. Three new schools, currently planned for by the district, will encompass birth through eighth grade classrooms in that respect; Harrison, Glen Oak, and a new building planned for the Woodruff Attendance area. "It doesn't mean that babies are going to be in the classroom,” says Mr. Hinton. “But, basically programs on good nutrition, nourishment and literacy, where a parent might come once a month to have the opportunity to find out how he or she can better support their child.” Mr. Hinton says the approach will be an example for other school districts around the country. It is the district’s intention that the new construction plans show the importance of early childhood education and the priority community collaboration continues to be in Peoria.
